A Nigerian student living in the United States, Amechi Amuegbunam, has been jailed for 46 months after he was found guilty of perpetrating fraud worth $3.7m.
The 30-yyear-old was also ordered to pay $615,555.12 in restitution for his role in a sophisticated email scam, otherwise known as Business Email Compromise that caused $3.7m loss to US companies.
He was arrested in Baltimore in August 2015 and charged with scamming 17 North Texas companies out of more than $600,000 using the technique.
He was accused of sending emails that looked like forwarded messages from top company executives to employees who had the authority to wire money. Amuegbunam tricked the employees into wiring him money by transposing a couple of letters in the actual company email, authorities said.

Nigerian army ends operation python dance in Southeast of the country
The Nigerian Army has declared that it has ended it’s operation in the Southeast.
General Officer Commanding (GOC), 82 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adamu Baba Abubakar, speaking on behalf of
the Chief of Army Staff. Lieutenant General TY Buratai formally declare the end of Exercise EGWU EKE 11.
The ceremony took place Saturday night in Sector 1 Tactical Headquarters at Umuahia, Abia State,
with the traditional activation of camp fire to formally signify the successful completion of the exercise.
This was made public via a statement on Sunday by Colonel Sagir Musa, Deputy Director Public Relations 82 Division.
The statement said
General Abubakar commended all the officers, soldiers and personnel of paramilitary organizations that collaborated, synergized and worked commendably throughout the one month period for the exercise.
He noted that, ⅞
”the achievements recorded in the areas of attainment of the mission specific training objectives, improvement in peace and security, curtailing the menace of violent irredentist groups in the theatre of the exercise is remarkable”.
Representative of the Abia State governor
, Engr Emmanuel Nwabuko expressed appreciation of the government and people of the State for the numerous achievements of Exercise EGWU EKE 11 in terms of improvement of peace, security and stability of the State.
He traced the collaborative relationship with the Nigerian Army to 2010-2011 ”when kidnappers, armed robbers and other hoodlums paralyzed economic and social activities in the State”.
“It was the army that rescued us. So, we are ready to always leverage on this relationship whenever the need arises,” Nwabuko said.
In attendance were representative of the Chief of Training and Operations Army Headquarters, Brigadier General Ndalolo, Defence Headquarters Observer Team led by Commodore Shammah, Security Adviser to Abia State Governor, Captain (rtd) Idonsi Awa and the Commanders of 14 and 34 Brigades, Brigadier Generals AK Ibrahim and IH Bature.
Others were the Commanders of 44 Engineer Brigade, 82 Division Garrison, and Supply and Transport Brigadier Generals – Mark Mamman, LA Adegboye and EA Anaryu respectively.

MONKEY POX: Dont allow Nigerian army treat your children, Ezeife
Chukwuemeka Ezeife, a former Governor of Anambra State, has advised people of the South East against allowing medical personnel of the Nigerian Military treat their children.
Ezeife issued the advise in reaction to the commotion caused by the military’s free medical treatment in Anambra State.
The former governor noted that people of the South East were capable of taking care of themselves, because they were rich to do so.
Speaking with The Sun, Ezeife said, “Last week, I was in Anambra, a traditional ruler called me and told me that his people were called to come out on Wednesday for free medical treatment by the military.
“He asked me whether he should allow his people to come out for the exercise. I told him, no, that if we could not stop them from killing with guns, we shouldn’t allow them to kill us with syringe.
“But on Wednesday, they went to schools in Anambra for the free medial treatment and everybody including school children were running helter-skelter, and parents were running to take back their children in the schools.
” I appeal to every parent in the Southeast to not allow their children to be treated by the soldiers. We are rich enough to treat our children.
“We are grateful to the governor of Anambra State for approaching the military and advising them to stop the medical treatment of our people until we understand what they want to do.
“The military should have gone to the minister of Education or the commissioner of Education or commissioner of Health, and the governor before releasing the soldiers in a civilian population. Whether it was an intended good or evil, they approached it in a very wrong way.”

A northern elder statesman and Second Republic lawmaker, Junaid Muhammed, has challenged anyone to show a project sited in northern Nigeria by President Muhammadu Buhari since he came into power in 2015.
Muhammed was reacting to the controversy currently trailing the alleged statement credited to President Buhari where he directed the World Bank to focus its project on northern Nigeria.
Muhammed noted that what Buhari was reported to have said was at variance with what he had been doing in government.
Muhammed said, “If Buhari said so categorically, it was a misstatement. If he had said the World Bank should concentrate projects in the region, (then) I have my doubts. Since he came to power as President, there is no single important project he has sited in the North.
“Nothing has been done in the North. I challenge anyone to tell me any project specifically directed to the North.
“We should also be careful about what these international organisations tell us, because they are not particularly friends of this country. If Buhari said the international agencies should concentrate assistance on the North-East, I would support that because that region has been the poorest and least developed, even before the Boko Haram insurgency.”
Militants vow to blow oil lines over Buhari's request to world bank, army operation
A coalition of militants in the Niger Delta, Friday threatened to attack oil pipelines in the region, following the revelation by the World Bank that President Muhammadu Buhari directed the financial institution to concentrate development in northern Nigeria.
The groups – Niger Delta Revolutionary Crusaders, NDRC and 21st Century Youths of Niger Delta, in a statement by WOI Izon Ebi, also condemned Army’s Operation Crocodile Smile II.
The statement read, “The current revelation of the World Bank and the present NNPC scandal has given us no choice but to activate our digital strike team to swing into action to stop further exploration and exportation of oil from the Niger Delta.”
“For it is very obvious that this present administration is for the North only, without putting into cognizance that 90 per cent of the resources that sustain this nation is from the Niger Delta.”
“We want to warn that this deliberate provocation and intimidation by the northern oppressors to provoke the Niger Delta people would be counterproductive because we are going to resist them with the last drop of our blood and a devastating response,” it said.
The militants said the determination “to start attack on all oil infrastructures,” saying, “We would not allow our resources to be used to fund only the north and intimidate us, rather than developing the Niger Delta deprived of its God-given resources since 1958.”
“The antics of their divide and rule tactics would never work again in the Niger Delta in this 21st century because the world and all honest Nigerians have seen the antics and tactics of the federal governments’ insensitivity and insincerity after the adoption of the 16-point agenda of PANDEF on the 3rd of August 2017.
“It is still very fresh in our minds the betrayal of Isaac Boro to keep Nigerian one, the killing of Ken Saro Wiwa and the Ogoni 9 and the dehumanization of their bodies with acid, the genocide in Odi, the genocide in Gbaramatu Kingdom,” the coalition asserted.
“We the NDRC and the 21st Century Youths and all affiliate organizations are determined to prove to the world that we are not cowards. The present military operation called Operation Crocodile Smile II that is currently going on in the Niger Delta would not deter us neither would we be intimidated because the current agitators have succeeded in taking the struggle from analogue to digital.”
“We have successfully proven to our oppressors before the ceasefire that we have the capacity to stop the flow of our God-given resources as our clamour and fight is for equity and justice.”
“We have also succeeded in educating our brothers that we do not have any problem with the military because the military are victims of the northern political elite’ conspiracy because of our God-given resources.”
The coalition, which had declared a ceasefire after the Federal Government and PANDEF met August 3 in Abuja, asserted: “We, therefore, want to warn the federal government that the deliberate provocation of the Operation Crocodile smile 2 in the Niger Delta is a waste of time.”
“We know our targets and no Niger Delta youth of this 21st century would be seen in the old fashion. We want to use this medium to advise our elders and leaders of the Niger Delta that our generation called the 21st century would not make the mistake our fathers made that have portrayed them as cowards as if the Fulani and Islamic jihadists have conquered the Niger Delta.
“We want to warn that the planned islamization and conqueror approach by this present government would be resisted with the last drop of our blood in this 21st century. We advise our brothers to be calm and steadfast and avoid any confrontation with the army because we the 21st century youths and other agitators have the ability to stop the flow of our oil in our backyards.
“Our grievances and agitations are genuine and nobody can or would be able to intimidate us with whatever military operations because we already know their aims and objectives. We want to warn that we are closely watching their actions and inactions and would respond at the appropriate time as we still believe in the eminent members of the PANDEF that persuaded us to ceasefire for sincere dialogue, for lasting peace for the rich, but impoverished people of the Niger Delta,” the merger added.
“If our understanding and sincerity is taken for granted, it means we would have no choice but to prove that we are not cowards and we would start implementing our next line of action for operation zero barrel of oil in the Niger Delta because enough is enough.”
What buhari said to china president
President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed delight at the mutually beneficial cooperation that exists between Nigeria and China.
His spokesman, Femi Adesina, said this is contained in a letter of felicitation with President Xi Jinping of China, on the occasion of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Buhari lauded China for “becoming an indispensable force in the comity of nations.’’
“On behalf of the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I have the pleasure to send our warmest congratulations to you and through you to all the 2,287 delegates and the 89 million party members on the auspicious occasion of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The Nigerian leaders said China has made remarkable progress under the leadership of CPC and remains an inspiration to developing countries and the whole world.
He noted that in the past 30 years, over 700 million Chinese had been lifted out of poverty, creating a miracle in the history of poverty reduction.
